Don't throw your career away before you make money online. Before you embark on a career online, it is important to take stock. Be honest about how much you need to earn and what skills you have. 1. How Much Do You Need to Earn?
We all have daily living expenses. It could be a grocery bill, feeding your oversized dog and keeping a roof over your head. It is important to appreciate how much money you need to live.
Overestimating the amount of money your need is much better. You should also be prepared to go through lean times. Having different income streams is the best way. Be honest with yourself and track your expenses. Set up a spreadsheet to keep an eye on living costs
2. A Living Wage
You need to make sure that you are paying yourself a living wage. If you are only making enough money to cover the essentials, you are soon going to get fed up with trying to make money online. Life is not only about working to live, it is about enjoying life as well.
3. Be Professional
When you do a regular job, you work a certain number of hours. To get your career started online, you may not be working full-time online. But once your new career takes off, you may want to work full-time. Stay professional at all times and making you see your life online as a business. When you do that, you are far more likely to succeed and a good living.
4 Take Your Expenses Into Account
Many other online workers that I speak to don't take their expenses into account. I make sure that everything from the use of electricity to computer repairs, or buying a new computer, is taken into account.
At the end of the month, I make sure that my business is in profit. Once you adopt that kind of attitude, you are much more likely to make a career out of working from home.
5. Don't Expect Quick Riches
Making money online is just like running a business in the real world. In other words, it is a job in progress. I know that there are plenty of so called get rich quick schemes out there. None of them work, so don't fall for any of them. If you want to make money online, you need to be prepared to work hard and smart to get going.
6. Learn New Skills
The worst thing that you can do is to assume that you know everything. I thrive on knowledge and learning new things. It has been one of my greatest assets when it comes to making money online.
Once you embark on your new career, you be surprised how many things that you need to learn. Don't be put off by the process, make the most of it and let it become part of your business. Teaching others is one way of making money online.
7.Think Outside the Box
Playing follow the leader online is not necessarily going to make you a lot of money online. Of course, there are some skills that you need to have, but try to come up with creative ideas on your own.
Once you you start coming up with your own unique ideas, write them down and deal with one at the time. All of my totally off the wall ideas are the ones that have made me the most money.
8. Promote Yourself
I think it is really important to be brave enough to promote yourself. This is something that we are not really encouraged to do when we work for a company. Once you start working for yourself, you are more or less turning yourself into a brand.
When I first started out working online, I realized that one of my greatest assets was my experience of brand promotion. It was a skill set that I immediately put to good use.
9. Identify Your Skills
You may not realise this, but I am pretty sure that you have some things that you are better than others. Make sure that you that you identify your skills before you start. Write them down, and find out of you can use your skills to make money online.
You may be terrific at arranging flowers. In that case, share your skills with the world. Your passion is what going is going to make you money.
10. Don't Work in Your Pajamas
Believe me, you are not going to make any money by working in your pajamas. Lots of people claim they do, but I don't think it really works.
Working in my my pajamas would make me feel unprofessional. I am at my desk every morning at 9 am, and I am dressed nicely. After that I work for a certain amount of hours, take a lunch break and get back to work. Adopting a professional attitude is important.
Finally, never undervalue your time. Work according to the location you are in the world, but make sure that you can make a living. In some places in the world, $2 per hour is a lot of money, but in most places it is not. Always strive to be honest with yourself. It is only then you can make your dreams come true.
